Christian Gustav Mandelkow immigrated to America in 1872 with his mother Cristena and family. They eventually settled in Iowa. His mother outlived Chris and died in 1900. Christian and his wife Wilhelmina (Neumann) raised their two sons; Herman and Gustav as well as three daughters; Bertha, Anna, and Louise in Avoca, Iowa.
