Grant was born in Omaha but resided in Council Bluffs most of his life. He first farmed with his father Fred Goehring, then worked for Omaha and Council Bluffs Street Railway Co. For the past 18 years he was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman. Grant married Mary Louise Christensen on December, 31 1927 and became the father to Mary's three children; Marilouise ( Cowles), Henrietta (Mayes) and Darwin Arthur Christensen. They all called him " Dad" and Grant's family and home were the most important things in his life and he cared deeply about his grandchildren. He taught grandson, Larry how to play cards and chess and loved holding granddaughters on his lap. Grant remodeled their home at 2121 5th Avenue from top to bottom and built a two car garage with his expert carpentry skills. Besides a passion for fishing, Grant was devoted to all his dogs, especially Curly, his Cocker Spaniel and Skipper their little Chihuahua. He suffered from emphysema due to heavy smoking for many years and his life was cut too short. He was dearly missed by all who knew him well.
