Dexter was born in Valley NE to Verdilla Mae Rice and Winter Lowell Cowles. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1937 and married the girl next door, Marilou Christensen August 7th of that year. Dexter was a sheet metal worker for the Union Pacific Railroad for 36 years and was very involved with the RR union. He was a active member of the RLDS Church which after his death changed their name to Community of Christ. Dexter was elected president of Kiwanis Club for a term and was dedicated to its service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and very proud of the Cowles ancestry.
