When Oline Christine Christensen was born on 8 August 1893, in Ørum, Dronninglund, Hjørring, Denmark, her father, Karl Christensen, was 30 and her mother, Wilhelmine Jensen, was 31. She married Carl Thomsen on 30 April 1918, in Ørum, Dronninglund, Hjørring, Denmark. Oline and her husband, Carl immigrated from Denmark with their children Mary and Holger in 1927. They first traveled to Montana where one of Carl's brothers lived but eventually settled in Avoca, Iowa.
Lena (name she was know by) was a wonderful baker and cook who carried on her Danish recipes for all to savor. In addition to her two children, Lena raised grandson, Billy Carl Preuss from the time he was 7 years old. She was the sweetest and kindest Grandmother ever there was and loved by all. She never had a harsh word or thought for anyone.
Lena died on March 14, 1985, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 91, and was buried in Graceland Cemetery at Avoca, Iowa. She is forever in our Danish hearts.
