ORD — Mary Lou Weverka, 89, of Ord, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at the Valley View Senior Village at Ord.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou Weverka was born June 22, 1926, 10 miles south of Burwell, to Carl and Rose (Quinn) Treptow. She was one of three children.

She grew up and received her education at District No. 56 through the 8th grade. Mary Lou moved to Burwell where she stayed with her grandmother and she attended Burwell High School, graduating in 1946. While in Burwell, she worked for McMullen Grocery and Clothing for two years. She took summer school so she could get her teaching certificate. Following her graduation, she moved home where she taught at a small country school three miles from home.

Mary Lou married William “Bill” Weverka June 25, 1951. They started their married life near Sargent on Bill’s farm. They raised hogs and corn. The couple never had any children of their own. Mary Lou was active in helping with the farm. Due to Bill’s health, they sold the farm and bought a home in Ord in 1982, at which time they started to winter at their summer home in Arizona. Each spring they returned to Ord. Following Bill’s death in 1991, Mary Lou no longer went to Arizona. She continued to live in her home until entering the Valley View Nursing Home in 2008, where she remained until her death.

Mary Lou was very social, loved to scrap book and cut out articles on her relatives and friends. She was a great one for family history. She would converse with people about who was who and who their relatives were. She was strong in her Catholic faith, attending church regularly while able to drive. She continued to attend services at the nursing home on Sunday mornings.

Mary Lou had two cousins, Don and Harold Treptow, who would visit her in the summers.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Emily Kelly of Sargent; a nephew, Lannie and Jane Weverka of Sargent; a good friend, Eileen and Gary Bruha of Ord; and lots of Quinn and Treptow cousins.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband; and two brothers, Jack and Bob.
