Verlon Stewart was born on February 24, 1923 in Polk County a son of the late Mr. James Brown Stewart and the late Mrs. Effie West Stewart. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Stewart; his sister, Elsie Stewart Brantley and his wife, Elizabeth Atkins Stewart in 2000. Mr. Stewart worked in the Construction and Farming Industry for many years until his retirement. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Trout. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Collard Valley Baptist Church.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his sons and daughters in law, Dan Stewart and Janice, Dennis Stewart and Melva, his daughters and son in law, Joy Leifheit and Jan Drake and David. 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Stewart was cremated. The Memorial Service for Mr. Verlon Stewart will be conducted on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. Robert Boatner officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.
The family ask that flowers please be omitted and memorial donations be made to the Collard Valley Baptist Church C/O Karen Dingler, 141 Pullen Rd., Lindale, GA 30147.
