George was born January 16, 1916 in Vancouver, Washington to Charles E. and Birdie May (Foster) Allen. He passed away January 1, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at 99 years old.
George moved to Spokane, Washington at age 5 and graduated from high school there. He returned to Vancouver, Washington and soon married Iona Grace Calkins. She preceded him in death just short of their 50th anniversary.
A few years after Iona's death, George got reacquainted with a widow, Mary E. Burns, and they were together over 25 years until she passed away April 29, 2014.
During World War II, George worked at the ship yard in Vancouver, Washington helping build ships for our military.
George had many jobs throughout his working career, but his last years of employment he worked at the employment office finding jobs for many people. He retired from there and spent the next 30 plus years enjoying life.
George loved to travel, camp, and dance at the Luepke Senior Center in Vancouver, Washington. He was a ham radio operator and an avid reader.
George is survived by his sons, Michael G. Allen (Carolyn) and Gary C. Allen (Kathy); 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. George also considered Mary's children and families as his own: Linda Gilligan (Paul) and Nancy Cannon (David); four grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
