Arthur LaVern Anacker, age 87, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Arthur was born on May 2, 1928 in Portage, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Allenstein) Anacker. He was married on May 5, 1951 to Carol Brown. He was a deputy with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department, retiring over 25 years ago. Arthur had also worked for Kroger’s in Portage and Clean Towel Delivery. He was a volunteer fireman for the City of Portage, and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Vickie Greenwold, Portage, and Dawn (Roger) Lochner, Portage; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Todd) Gunderson, Brian (Kim) Greenwold, Michael (Emily) Dewsnap, and Benjamin (Kristina) Dewsnap; great-grandchild, Peyton Greenwold; other relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Dale Anacker, a sister, Delores Ohnesorge, and his son-in-law, Stewart Dewsnap.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage; a memorial service will follow, with the Rev. Julie Krahn officiating. Private inurnment will be in Pacific Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
