Susan was born in the Town of Worth, New York in 1872, the daughter of Mr. Alpheus Wright # 150017388 and Martha (Bickford) Wright. Susan's siblings were Adelbert (1864), Ellen (1866) and Jennie (1869). Susan's mother died in 1874 (burial unknown), and her father Alpheus married a second time to Esther Dingman.

Susan married Lloyd Bartlett #156939697 on April 27, 1899 in Watertown, New York, when she was 25 years old and became an active member of Bethany Methodist church for 40 years, and a member of the Garland Rebekah Lodge for 30 years. The Daughter's of the Rebekah core values: "They were famous for their loyalty, patriotism, for civic and national services, for humanitarianism, and for devotion to God and the cause of righteousness among mankind". The Rebekah's were an Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which at the time only allowed men into their organization. Susan and Lloyd Bartlett raised 2 sons, Albert and Raymond Bartlett, and celebrated their golden anniversary in April 1949.
