Marietta Alvey, age 85, of Paducah, KY, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Lourdes Hospice Care Center. She was a native of Owensboro, KY, a graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph Academy and Brescia University.

She is survived by her three children; Theresa (Brian) Medlin of Paducah, Stephen (Liesl) Alvey of Omaha, NE, and Janette (Kenneth) Courtney of Madison, AL, fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A sister, Muriel O’bryan (Damon) Gillim also survives.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents, Lewis and Flora (Hagan) Ling, three sisters and seven brothers.

Marietta was a teacher for forty years including Sorgho Elementary and Sutherland Elementary in Daviess County, Head Start in Paducah, KY and St. John Elementary in McCracken County. After retirement she was a Eucharistic Minister for homebound and Lourdes Hospital patients; spent many hours volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul where she won an award for her work, and was involved in jail ministry. She was presented a special service award from the Retired Volunteer Program by Fr Larry McBride.
