Edith Marie Ansel "Edythe" July 24, 1919 - July 9, 2009 Edythe was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, by her parents, Joseph and Mary Ansel. She graduated from Commerce High School and earned an AA degree from City College of San Francisco. During World War II she worked for the U.S. Navy in recruitment. She was an executive secretary with Hartford Insurance Company for 33 years. She then went on to work at the Office of Emergency Services in San Francisco for eight years. Edythe was a member of the Potrero Hill Boosters Neighborhood Association and the Coalition of San Francisco Neighborhood Associations. She was also a member of the Slovenian Women's Union, Delta Chi Sigma, Alpa Lambda, the Commonwealth Club of California and the Golden Gate National Parks Association. She was a docent at the Presidio Army Museum and the Palace Hotel. She also volunteered at KQED during membership drives and special events. She moved to San Mateo, CA in 1996. Edythe graduated from the San Mateo Citizens Services Academy in 1998. She was a participant in the San Mateo Community Visions/Compass Program from 1998 to 1999. She was also a member and volunteer at the San Mateo County Historical Association.
Edythe was the dear sister of Agnes A. Kurnick; and a loving aunt to her three nieces. She was loved by her two grandnieces and two grandnephews. She was also loved by her three great- grandnieces and great-grandnephew. She will be missed by her many relatives and friends.
