Father, husband, uncle, grandfather, son, brother, pastor, reverend, Brother, counselor he was know to others. To me, he was Dad or Daddy (if I wanted something.)

Dad was a South Carolina native who ran away from home as a teenager, only to return a few times to his family home on a few occasions through the years. He was the son of Frances Ella Fair Gilliam. After a four year stint the Air Force in the late 50's, he found himself in Austin, Texas, saved and going into the ministry.

He joined the Salvation Army, serving a decade. It was in Austin at the Salvation Army Corp where he met my mother, Miriam Ruth Lucas. They were married at the Corp in Austin on June 14, 1964. Afterwards, they began their life in the service in Littlefield, Texas.

Forty years in the ministry, three children and a grandchild, his life was full of beautiful experiences, fulfillments and heartaches. He lost his wife of almost 30 years in March of 1993. In 1995, his health began to fail him a little at a time. In 2002, he had a kidney transplant which took as if it were his own. After his annual checkup in July 2003, he fell, breaking his hip. He never left the hospital after that. Emotionally, mentally, physically exhausted, he went on to meet the Lord.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

One of Dad's favorite songs, and he had many, was Peace in the Valley.

Peace In The Valley

Well, I'm tired and so weary
But I must go along
Till the Lord comes and calls me away, oh yes
Where the morning's so bright
And the Lamb is the light
And the night is as bright as the day, oh yes

There will be peace in the valley for me some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord, I pray
There'll be no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me!

He is missed by his children, Jacinda, Timothy and Jonathan, daughter-in-law Virginia and granddaughter Annie Mae Ruth.
