He was married on August 3, 1912 in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee as the 1st husband of Daisy E Lewis (1912–1981), the daughter of Phylander Madison "Phy" Lewis (1891–1981) and Mary Adeline (Rodgers) Lewis (1895–1946).
A truck driver who was living on Whites Creek Pike out of Nashville on Route 3, Clifton was 32 years old when he "fell dead" at 410 2nd Avenue South in Nashville. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison [city, not county].
