Charles Eugene Gafford, born May 7, 1931 to Glenn and Louise Gafford in Cumberland Furnace, TN. Charles entered into Glory on January 10, 2016 in Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Barney, and sister Laverne.
Charles was known to most people as Chuck or Pastor Chuck. He served our country in the US Air Force for 21 years and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1971. Chuck and Chere Gafford were married on February 14, 1956 in Midwest City, OK. Chuck was ordained to preach on June 21, 1973 in Avoca, TX. He served as Pastor of Avoca Baptist Church for 8 years while attending college at Hardin-Simmons University, earning a Bachelor of Arts on May 9, 1976, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity on December 14, 1979. Chuck and Chere were called to the mission field in 1980. He served as Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Misawa, Japan for 18 years. While serving in Japan, Chuck and Chere started a Japanese mission in Towada, Japan. Chuck also served as Interim Pastor of a Japanese church in Misawa. They retired as missionaries in 1998 and have resided in Mustang, OK since that time. Since retirement, he served as an Assistant Chaplain at Valir Rehabilitation Hospital. Chuck loved preaching, teaching Sunday School, substitute teaching for Mustang Public Schools, and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Chere Gafford of Mustang, his son Charles Gafford, Jr. and wife Jody of Oklahoma City, daughter Christy Burney of Moore, son Boyd Gafford and wife Angie of Long Jack, MO, and daughter Jeanne Reynolds and husband Mark of Oklahoma City. A sister, Patricia Gilstrap of Evansville, IN, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
The Gafford Family will receive friends and family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Friday, January 15, 2016, at tthe John M. Ireland Funeral Home, located at 120 South Broadway, Moore, Oklahoma.
Memorial Services will be held at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church, in Mustang OK, on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM, under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home.
