Bertha Howell Mailly served as executive secretary of the Rand School of Social Science, a Socialist school in New York City, from 1909 to 1937. In 1921 she established Camp Tamiment, a 2,100 acre resort in northeast Pennsylvania, to raise money for the school. A year after Tamiment opened, a new auditorium there was named Bertha Mailly Hall in her honor. She remained director of Tamiment until her retirement in 1947. Mrs. Mailly graduated Cornell University in 1894 and married William Mailly (National Executive Secretary of the Socialist Party of America and managing editor of the New York Call) in 1898.
