She was the daughter of Charles Royal and Mary Ann Gearhardt. She married Christopher Alderson on August 13, 1862.

Mrs. Mary Royal Alderson, wife of the late Rev. Christopher Alderson of the Methodist Episcopal church, died at her home at 1208 Belmont street yesterday morning from injuries suffered in a fall Friday, December 28. Mrs. Alderson failed to regain consciousness after the accident. Funeral services will be held at the Sunnyside Methodist Episcopal church, Wednesday, January 2, at 10 A. M. Burial will be in the family plot at Lincoln Memorial Park cemetery. Mrs. Alderson was born in Cook county, Illinois, in 1842, and in 1852 crossed the plains with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Royal. The family’s first year in Oregon was spent at Astoria. Later they moved to a land claim near Gresham. At the age of 20 Mrs. Alderson was married to Rev. Mr. Alderson and for 40 years assisted him in his church work. She is survived by four daughters, Edith and Mrs. Lois Huggins of Portland, and Mrs. Anna Person and Mrs. Marguerite Burkhart of Albany, Or.; a son, W. S. Alderson of Portland, and a brother, William Royal of Elma, Wash.
