He was a veteran SP5 of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He worked at the Fairmont Box Factory and retired from the Federal #1 mine in Grant Town. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working on his John Deere tractor.
Mr. Abel is survived by his wife Margaret (Scritchfield) Abel; three children, Jimmy Abel and wife Aubrey of Florida, Wesley Abel and wife Mandy of Fairmont, Patty Henderson and husband Brian of Fairview; six sisters, Mary Merico of Grant Town, Eleanor Allard of Fairmont, Libby Bentti and husband Bob of Kentucky, Dessie Haught of Fairmont, Linda Bingaman and husband James “Red” of Fairmont, and Janet Rush of Fairmont; grandchildren, Logan, Lindsey, and Megan Abel, and Ryan Henderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Abel; three brothers-in-law, Tony Merico, Jim Allard, and Andy Haught; his father –in-law, Jim Scritchfield; and his mother-in-law, Patricia Scritchfield. Cremation has been chosen as his final disposition. Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel in Fairview is in charge of the arrangements. A private family burial will be at a later date.
