Sharon "Sherry" Vickers Akers, 68, of Chesapeake, died Jan. 11, 2016 at home from complications due to an unexpected massive stroke on Dec. 28, 2015.

She was a graduate of Charleston High School, class of 1965. She was a retired executive secretary to the commissioner at the West Virginia Department of Highways.

She was preceded in death by son, William Gregory Akers; parents, Leroy and Jacqueline Atkins Vickers; brother, Terry Vickers; and special aunt, Moe Moore.

Surviving are her cousin, Betty Atkins of Marmet; her special friend and caregiver, Linda Fosco Reynolds of Charleston; and a host of other friends and co-workers.

Per her request, Sherry will be cremated and her ashes will be shared between her son and mother, with the remainder going in the ocean at Myrtle Beach.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, with the Rev. Daniel Kelly officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Living Faith Church, 9209 Ohio Ave., Marmet, WV 25315.
