JONES, Elvida Angove (1910 - 2010) Native California centenarian, died on June 22, 2010, in Sacramento, Calif.
Elvida Armya Angove Jones, the daughter of John and Bessie (Temby) Angove, was born at home on January 5, 1910, in Grass Valley, Calif.
After graduating from Grass Valley High School in 1928, Elvida moved to Sacramento to work for the Calif. Dept. of Motor Vehicles.
In August 1933 she married Wendell H. Jones who was the son of early (1910) Carmichael residents Wayland and Augusta Bushart Jones.
They built a home on Kenneth Ave. and lived on the family ranch in Carmichael until 1956. They then purchased and operated the Bret Harte Dairy, a milk distributing business in Nevada City, Calif., until they retired in 1973. Both of Elvida's maternal grandparents (William and Amelia (Nicholls) Temby and paternal grandparents John and Elizabeth (Hampton) Angove were early Cornish pioneers in Grass Valley in the 1860s.
In the 100 years that Elvida enjoyed, she saw many changes and enhanced the lives of her four children, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with her excellent mind and memory.
Elvida was an avid reader, loved sports and always encouraged her family to be independent and strive to do their best.
Surviving her are her children Weldon (Barbara), Myrna, Ray (Sally), and Judy (Rick). Preceding her in death was her husband Wendell; brothers Virgil, Cecil, and Norman Angove; and two grandchildren. At her request there will be no services.
Interment will be at East Lawn, Folsom Blvd., Sacramento.
