"Born in the Ozark mountains of southwestern Missouri. His father and mother were born and raised near Carthage and Joplin MO. At the age of 3, he and his parents moved back toward Carthage. After his youngest sister died in 1900, the family went west and pioneered in western Oklahoma. He not a home much after age 12 and was on his own at age 16. He tried farming and teaching school, but did not like either. He then learned photography before he found that painting was "my natural outlet and a real God given talent". He met his second wife in Franklin PA and they married Oct 11, 1951. He taught her oil painting. She also played the piano and organ. They had a 35 foot trailer (4 rooms and a bath) and both liked the traveling life. He painted murals for a number of churches in PA including in Dubois, Sykesville, Reynoldsville, Brookville, Clarion, Franklin, Oil City, Erie, New Castle, Portersville, and Butler.
