HERRIN - Audra Berniece Vose , 85, passed away at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at her home in Herrin. Audra was born June 17, 1930,in Muldrow, Oklahoma, the daughter of Fred Henry and Lela Leona (Meadors) Allen. She married James Sloan in Vian, Oklahoma, in August of 1946, and he preceded her in death in July 1970. She later married Herald Vose in Pekin in November 1972, and he preceded her in death in September 1997. She was the widow of two proud World War II veterans. Mrs. Vose was a member of Herrin Second Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and quilting. Survivors include two daughters, Angie and Lindell Bird of Carterville and Lola Bird and companion, Mike Kinley, also of Carterville; two stepdaughters, Linda Youngblood of West Memphis, Arkansas, and Christine and Jerry Dillon of Camus, Washington; stepson, Jerry and Nikki Wade of Maumelle, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Kathy and Kyle Decker of Centralia, Brian Bird of Wildwood, Missouri, Jennifer Messamore of Mayfield, Kentucky, and Carrie Christy of Carterville; three great-grandchildren, Kameron Decker, Kaleigh Duncan and Ashley Messamore; and special friend, Naomi Ridgeway of Carterville She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Ada Black; two brothers, Sonny and William Allen; and sister, Clarris Phillips. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with the Rev. Matt Frizzell officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, 201 S. 13th St., Herrin, IL 62948.
