On Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, as the evening shade began to make its descent, the stars filled the sky and the moon shined like a gold medallion over the Western Hemisphere, Roland "Uncle Dump" Newton, at the age of 78, heard the Master's call from labor to reward, surrounded by his loving family, resting on his favorite couch. Service: A homegoing celebration in his honor will be noon, Monday, Jan. 26, at St. James A.M.E. Church, 5024 Ramey Ave., with W.M. Jackson as celebrant. Interment: Uncle Dump will be laid to rest until the Resurrection in Skyvue Memorial Gardens. Visitation: You may visit Uncle Dump as he peacefully slumbers in his Solid African Mahogany couch 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Greater Eleazer Baptist Church, 5025 Sunshine Drive, with a time of reflection from 7 to 8 p.m. Services are entrusted in the care of his loving grandson, Michael V. Guthrie, and the professional staff of Cravens Funeral Home, 903-893-6110.
