William C. Campbell, 72, of New Wilmington passed away unexpectedly the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015.
Bill was born in New Castle on Feb. 16, 1943, to the late Ralph and Sarah Jane Sharp Campbell.
He was a 1961 graduate of New Castle High School, and later graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey.
Bill served as a trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police for multiple decades, stationed at both the Gibsonia, and then the Mercer barracks before his retirement. During Bill’s many years of service, he was stationed in Hershey with the Tactical Mounted Patrol training horses and performing mounted detail patrol duties. Upon his return to the Mercer barracks to be closer to his family, he administered driver’s license exams, as well as performing patrol duties.
He was a member of the Cultured German Society, the Fraternal Order of Police and also served on the board of directors at Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington.
Bill was very fond of his nieces and nephews. He had a very active role in their lives and cherished the many good times and memories they shared together.
Bill enjoyed riding his motorcycle and driving his mustang convertible. He loved to spend time at his lake, fishing with his family and boating with friends on Lake Erie. Bill came to appreciate the time he spent with his friends in the Amish community and making himself available to them. He truly loved life on the farm in New Wilmington.
Bill is survived by a sister, Sarah Sally Luca and her husband, Thomas R. Sr.; two brothers, Thomas E. Campbell and his wife, Patricia, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and James S. Campbell of West Middlesex; two nephews, Michael Campbell and Thomas Luca Jr.; two nieces, Stacey Wiles and Michele Luca; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
