"Charles Thompson departed this life January 19, 1896, at his home in Italy, aged 71 years and 4 months. He was born in Redbourne, England, and came to America in 1852, lived at Italy Hill for four years and then moved to the neighborhood in which be died. He had but one relative in this country, except the immediate family, and a daughter of his brother, Richard, who died in 1864, they coming to this country together.

He had a wife, one daughter, two sons and three grandchildren. The daughter died in 1881. His eyesight began failing about twenty years ago and for the last ten years has been afflicted with rheumatism, rarely leaving
home during that time. He will be missed in the neighborhood, as be was ever ready to help all who needed assistance. He was taken with pneumonia and was confined to the bed about a week, but seemed to know from the first that the end was near. The funeral services were held at the house yesterday. Interment at the Naples Italy cemetery, Rev. Benson officiating." (Naples Record, 23 January 1896)

"On Tuesday, September 14th, Mrs. Martha Hulett Thompson, who resides with her son, Frank Thompson, in the town of Italy, just over the Italy-Naples county line, reached
the age of 94 years. She was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1832 and came to America and to the town of Italy soon after her marriage to Charles Thompson, when she was about 18 years of age; they made the voyage in a sailing vessel, six weeks being required in crossing the ocean. Her husband died in 1896. She has two sons, Frank and George Thompson both of Italy; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren." (Naples Record, 22 September 1926)
