In 1870 Rob (then called Robbie) was living with his parents in Plum Twp. (Pennsylvania, perhaps Allegheny Co.)

He was born in Allegheny County, PA, but spent his early life with is parents on a farm in Mira Valley in Valley County, Nebraska. He was educated in public schools and business college. He remained in Nebraska until 1891, then moved east, stopping in Chicago for several years, where he was employed as a bookkeeper. Later he moved to Western Pennsylvania, locating in Pittsburgh, where in 1900 he first became associated in a clerical capacity with a glass manufacturer. In 1907, he began to work with Stahl Glass Co. of Greensburg, and then became the manager of Greensburg Glass Co., a position he held from the beginning of that company's existence.
He was a member of the Masonic Order, and a Republican in politics. He and his wife were Presbyterians. In 1920, he was living in Buffalo, NY, and in 1943 was living in Kansas City, MO, where he was in insurance work.
