Greenville man was veteran of Bulge, salesman
Robert E Charles, 48 S Summit Road; Greenville, died of natural causes at 8:45 p m Saturday (11-15-03) at his residence. He was 90. Mr. Charles was born Feb. 13, 1913 in Fenton, Ill to Daniel Charles and Etha Wohrley Charles. He served in World War II and fount at the Battle of the Bulge with the 75th Infantry Division. For 25 years, Mr. Charles worked as a salesman for Sharon Chrysler Plymouth in Sharon, retiring in December 1983. A Protestant, he also belonged to the Hartford Masonic Lode, Hartford and the Valley of New Castle Consistory, New Castle. His wife, the former Helen Holup, whom he married Nov 22, 1941, survives at home. Also surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Joanne) DiSalvo; and Mrs. Dennis (Jeanette) McGranahan, both of Greenville; two sons, John R (Jack) and his wife Becky Charles, Greenville; James E and his wife Bonnie Charles, Sharon; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Wiesen, Hermitage; and Mrs. Cecelia Hinkle, Tucson Ariz; eight grandchildren, Jaclyn Charles, Mrs. Dave (Brandy) Little, Rob and DJ DiSalvo, Jarred DiSalvo, Chelsa Charles and Kyle and Keith McGrannahan and two great grandchildren, Shayla and Carlene Little. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nina Bailey and two brothers, Howard Charles and infant John Charles. {herald}
