He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and saw active combat in several Atlantic Pacific Theater Campaigns. He achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant and earned several medals. After the war, Russell continued to serve I the Reserves while attending McGeorge School of Law.
Russell met a beautiful legal secretary, June Rowley, during his final year of studies. They were married on July 4, 1953 in Lake Tahoe, CA. Russell was notified that he had passed the California State Bar while on their honeymoon.
He began his legal career and formed a new law practice with his "Law Buddies". He later left the firm to accept a position as Corporate Attorney for Diamond International. Corporate law was his passion and he remained in this position for many years until he retired.
In later years, Russell lived a quiet life. He was an avid reader and loved to debate current affairs. He frequently met with his brother, Harley, for breakfast. Russell also treasured time with his staff and friends and met with them often for lunch.
Russell was devoted to family. Whenever there was a nee, he didn't hesitate to help. His sharp mind, dry wit, and generosity as well as his concern and care for others will be sorely missed.
His wife, June, mother, Doris, and nephew Harley Jr., preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved brother, Harley, and wife, Sylvia; cousin Laura Rader; three nieces, 11 great nieces and nephews and ten great-grand nieces and nephews.
Russell's passing leaves a huge void in the lives of family and friends, but we take comfort in knowing that his suffering is over and that he is at peace.
