Grace was the daughter of Elihu Commodore and Barbara Ehley Tipton of Licking and Franklin Counties. She married Charles Cruse on 1 December 1923 in Franklin County, and they had Charles William, Glenn A., and Cecil Marion. She died of mitral stenosis which was aggravated by having given birth to twins on April 3. Grace came to the hospital, left, and returned too late. She died just months before her husband. The Cruse grandparents took the children.
