US Congressman. He studied law in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, moved to Texas and became an attorney in 1852. He joined the Confederate Army at the outbreak of the Civil War and served until the end of hostilities. Giddings was a Delegate to the 1866 Texas constitutional convention. After losing an 1870 race for Congress as a Democrat he successfully contested the victory of William T. Clark and claimed his seat in the US House. Giddings was reelected to a full term in 1872 and served from May 1872 to March 1875. He ran for Congress again in 1876 and served one term. After leaving the House he practiced law and became involved in banking. He was also a Delegate to the Democratic national conventions of 1884, 1888 and 1892.
