According to the 1919 pub. "History of Haverhill, NH," Hannah is claimed to be the dau. of "Phillips" Edwards and "niece of Pres. Edwards," which is an error. "Pres. Edwards" refers to Rev. Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758), who from 1730 to 1755 was pastor of the Northampton, Mass. church. For a brief period before his death Rev. Jonathan was the 2nd President of Princeton University in New Jersey.

Hannah's paternal grandfather, Jonathan Edwards (1722-1794) of Northampton and Amherst, Mass. was the s. of Samuel Edwards of Northampton. On the other hand, Rev. Jonathan Edwards was born at East Windsor, Conn., the only son of Rev. Timothy Edwards (1669-1758) of East Windsor, latter the only son of Richard Edwards (1647-1718) of Hartford, Conn. by his first wife Elizabeth Tuttle. There is no kinship between Hannah (Edwards) Bailey and the family of Rev. Jonathan Edwards.
