On Sunday, January 24 2016, we unexpectedly lost our beloved Jason John Ovenstone at the age of 33. Jason was born on July 16, 1982. He attended Dryden High School /and graduated in 2000. From there he achieved a diploma in 2001 from the Academy of Technical Training as a Computer Service Technician. He was employed at several places throughout the years including: Naumann's Store, Rick Huckell Contracting, Tim Horton's, Extra Foods, Levi's Bits & Bites, Wilson's, Convergys Call Center (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Best Western.

If you needed help figuring out computers, TVs, or electronics Jason would be there. His interest in computers and technology were a blessing to family and friends. Jason had a passion for anything nostalgic. He was fascinated by antiques, vintage cars, and old photos. He took a great interest in genealogy and spent many hours with his Aunt Barbara piecing together the family history. His love for nostalgia was deeply connected to his love for the outdoors in his hometown of Dinorwic. As a child, he would go exploring with his Poppa Ovenstone, and he spent hours with his dad digging up old pop bottles for his collection. He spent countless days with family and friends on the land and he knew many beautiful sites in the area.

A huge part of Jason's life was his love for music. He played guitar from a young age and wrote his own songs. Although he enjoyed all genres of music, he especially enjoyed 50's, 60's, 70's, Soul, classic rock, and 90's rock. He liked to read music biographies and watch documentaries, and was known to share his music knowledge. He was very pleased to share his favorite music with others and would play a song for you that he thought you'd like. He also loved to send music videos to his family and friends. He would have been most honoured if the songs he shared lived on in their hearts.

Animals were drawn to him and his gentle way with them. He had immense love for his many dogs over the years, and a large part of his time was spent with them. He liked to tell funny stories about his dogs and this made him laugh. He was most joyful and at peace with his dogs at his side.

Jason was known by many to be a good person to talk to and confide in. He would take the time to acknowledge people, old and young, and he knew exactly the right encouraging words to say, especially to those struggling in life. He was always up to date with current news and his eclectic interests made him a pleasure to converse with. His kindness in this way will missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his parents Marlene and Bill Ovenstone, brother Billy Ovenstone, sister Stephanie Landon, grandmother Lena Kuka, aunt Gail Pencoff, uncle Randy Kuka (Teresa), uncle Dan Kuka (Stellie), aunt Barb Nickel, uncle Glenn Ovenstone (Kathy), uncle Jim Ovenstone (Brenda), nephew Kai Wasacase, cousins Bill Pencoff, Ryan Kuka, Adam Kuka, Rae Lyn Kuka (Ali), David Rys, Kendra Rys, Kevin Rys (Innis), Trevor Ovenstone (Leah), Justin Ovenstone (Sarah). Jason was predeceased by his grandfather William Kuka, grandmother Lillian Ovenstone, grandfather John Ovenstone and uncle Joe Nickel.

A Private Family Memorial Service has been held. If friends desire donations may be made to Second Chance Pet Network through the Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON P8N 2Z1.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

"Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost - also used in the movie "The Outsiders"

Stevie Wonder - Stay Gold

"Stay Gold" lyrics:

Seize upon that moment long ago
One breath away and there you will be
So young and carefree
Again you will see
That place in time...so gold

Steal away into that way back when
You thought that all would last forever
But like the weather
Nothing can ever...and be in time
Stay gold

But can it be
When we can see
So vividly
A memory
And yes you say
So must the day
Too, fade away
And leave a ray of sun
So gold

Life is but a twinkling of an eye
Yet filled with sorrow and compassion
though not imagined
All things that happen
Will age too old
Though gold
