PIHAKIS, MARGIE MAURINE LUCKIE SNIDER Margie Maurine Luckie Snyder Pihakis died January 15, 2012 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Birmingham on August 18, 1926. She was a life-long resident of Birmingham living in the Bluff Park Area. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Arthur Luckie and Margie T. Luckie; her first husband, Marvin Snyder; her son, Marvin Luckie Snyder; her second husband, Jim Pihakis; her siblings, Merle Crawford, Ross Luckie, and Eulyn Kimbrough. After the death of her first husband, Maurine entered Sanford University, reared her teenage son, and graduated Magna Sum Laude. She began her career by teaching English at Parker High School. She then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received her Masters in Counseling. While teaching at Midfield High School, she retired as Vocational Counselor following a heart attack in 1992. Her students will always remember her for her loving and caring concern. Her peers will always remember her for her sharp wit and charisma. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and step children. Maurine will be missed tremendously by her dear friends and caregivers, Sharon Lemley and Shyrie Holladay. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Elmwood Chapel beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery with Chris Sullivan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's' Disease Fund would be appreciated. >>
