Susan Jordan, 69, died Tuesday after a bus jumped the curb at Amy Beverland Elementary School. Jordan pushed students out of the way, according to the bus driver.
In addition to serving as principal at Amy Beverland for 22 years, Jordan was a past principal of Brook Park Elementary School, also in Lawrence Township. She received her undergrad degree at the University of Evansville in 1968 and her master’s at Butler University in 1988.
Jordan taught in Evansville for four years before coming to Indianapolis.
Jordan was born on Aug. 15, 1946, in Evansville to her parents, the late Robert L. and Mary K. Kelley. She was on the St. Alban’s Softball Board, CIAGC (Central Indiana Association for Gifted Children) ASCD (Association for School Curriculum Development) and the Indiana State Principal’s Association.
In addition, she was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
Susan is survived by her daughters, Mary “Lisa” Elisabeth Jankowski and her husband, Andy, and Amy Susan Dinwiddie and her husband, Will; grandsons, Wilkes Dinwiddie and Josh Jankowski; granddaughters, Katherine Dinwiddie and Kelley Jankowski; brothers, Bob Kelley and his wife, Rosie and Dan Kelley; step-brother, John Steinhauer; step-sister, Virginia Garland; nephews, Bart Kelley and his wife, Sandy and Donny Kelley and his wife, Chase; numerous great nephews and nieces; and many other loving family members and devoted friends.
Services for Jordan will be held at St. Luke’s Methodist at 86th Street and Meridian Street in Indianapolis. The viewing will take place on Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral is Saturday at 3 p.m. She will have a private burial at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, Ky.
Her family has asked for donations to be made to the Susan Jordan Memorial Fund of the Lawrence Township School Foundation or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
