Professional Football Player. For nine seasons (1958 to 1966), he played at the guard, tackle and linebacker positions in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams. Born Theodore George Karras, he attended Emerson High School in Indiana where he achieved All-State honors. He played collegiate football at Indiana University and following graduation, he served with the United States Marine Corps. Signed by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted player, he totaled 108 career regular season games. Karras experienced a world championship with the Chicago Bears in 1963. Highly-durable, he put together a consecutive game streak which spanned over seven seasons (1958 to 1964). In 1965, he was a teammate of his younger brother Alex while with the Detroit Lions. After retiring from football, he worked as a Physical Education teacher and served as an assistant football coach with his son Ted Karras, Jr. who was also a NFL player. In addition to Alex Karras, his older brother Lou Karras played in the NFL.
