Elizabethton: John C. Paty Sr., 76, Founder of Paty Lumber Co., died at 7 P.M. Thursday at Virginia Medical College in Richmond, Va., after a brief illness. A native of Bell Buckle, Mr. Paty moved to Elizabethton in 1927, and founded the lumber company in 1932. He was chairman of the board of directors of Paty Lumber Co., stores in Bristol, Elizabethton, Greenville, Johnson City, and Kingsport. He also was a member of the board of directors of Carter Country Bank here, and first Federal Savings and Loan Corp. in Johnson City. Mr. Paty was president of the Watauga Historical association and a past president of the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce. In 1972, he recieved the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award. He was a member of First United Methodist Church here, the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club and Blue Lodge F & AM, at Bell Buckle. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys N. Paty; a son John C. Paty Jr., Bristol, Tenn., three daughters, Mrs. John Seward, Johnson City, Mrs. William Prendergast, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Clark Jones, Richmond Va.; A brother, Dr. Morris Paty, Covington, Ga.; and a sister, Mrs. E. H. Barksdale, Nashville.
