Ruth the fourth of eight children born to Benjamin Adams and Abigail Pickering. Her siblings: James H., Elizabeth, Nathan Webb, Mary, Abigail, Benjamin and Thomas.
She married John Shackford on 20 Apr 1777 in Newington, New Hampshire* They had at least 7 children as documented in her will as well as John's. They were: Elizabeth, Abigail, John (died young), Seth Ring, Samuel, Benjamin Adams and John Downing.
