From the book Literature of Journalism, by Warren C Price, p. 261 a book or pamphlet is cited "Indonesia Report: The Collected Dispatches of the American Correspondents Who Died in Bombay, India, July 12, 1949, on Their Return from a Tour of Indonesia. (Tucson, Ariz.: The Arizona Daily Star, 1949) "Of 15 correspondents who made this trip to Indonesia,13 were killed in a plane crash." Nathaniel A. Barrows, Chicago Daily News is named as one of these.

The ashes left Bombay on July 25, 1949 in a K.L.M. (Royal Dutch Airlines) aircraft to be returned to the United States via Amsterdam, Holland."
