Dr. Mario Bonaquist; retired orthopedic surgeon was 81

SCHENECTADY - A service will be held for Dr. Mario Bonaquist, 81, of Queens Drive and Naples, Fla., after a long illness. Born in Italy, Dr. Bonaquist came to Schenectady at a young age. He was a graduate of Schenectady High School, Union College and Albany Medical School.
He served a two year residency at the U. S. Marine Hospital in Baltimore and operated a general practice from 1945 to 1952.
Dr. Bonaquist then completed a residency in orthopedics at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City and was an orthopedic surgeon from 1955 until retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. Helen's Church, the Idaka Forum, the Edison Club, the Schenectady County Medical Society and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Bonaquist served as a major in the Army Air Forces during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Monaco Bonaquist, whom he married in 1938; a son, James A. Bonaquist of Rexford; a daughter, Barbara Hardt of Rexford; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
