"John D. "Jack" Atkinson, 73, of Port Huron, died Friday, October 25, 2013 in St. John River District Hospital [in East China].
He was born May 8, 1940 in Sarnia, Ontario, the son of the late James and Dorothy Atkinson. He married Jeanne M. Sweet on November 24, 1990 in Florida.
Jack was a lifelong Port Huron area resident having retired from Local #463 and also from Seafarers International Union of Algonac. He served with the U.S. Merchant Marines in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.
He was a member of L.O.O.M. #158, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was an avid hunter and loved to kid and joke with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Port Huron; son, John Atkinson Jr. of Florida; step-daughter, Bobbie Jean Sweet of Port Huron; step-son, Robert Sweet of Port Huron; three grandchildren, Kody Hoffman, Britanie Sweet and Robert Sweet III; and his brother, Robert (Esther) Atkinson of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy Stapleton."
