1Lt. Richard Lee Bales was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, 1Lt. Bales served our country until December 4th 1968,in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and wasn't married. It was reported that he was killed by a hostile exploding mortar round. He was born in Fairport, New York on December 7th, 1947. His body was recovered. 1Lt. Bales is on panel 37W, line 037 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for more than 2 years.

He is the Son of Mr and Mrs Julian Bales, 120 Midvale Dr. Fairport, New York.

1Lt. Richard Lee Bales served as a Infantry Unit Commander with Delta Company, 3rd Platoon, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division,USARV.

He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal (Merit), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat wounds, The Army Good Conduct Medals, The Combat Infantryman's Badge, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
