LEONARD JAMES (L.J.) BOYD, JR. HIGH POINT - Retired High Point Police Lieutenant Leonard James (L.J.) Boyd, Jr., 63, of 2620 Ingram Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at High Point Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Central Wesleyan Church, 300 Hinkle Street, Thomasville by the Rev. Glenn E. Hawkins and the Rev. David M. Emery. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Lt. Boyd was born Aug. 7, 1934 in Thomasville to Leonard James and Ethel Blake Boyd. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life. Lt. Boyd was a graduate of Wesleyan College high School in Central, SC. He was a member of Central Wesleyan Church in Thomasville.

Lt. Boyd had been Training Director of the High Point Police Department and after 22 years of service he retired in 1981, as Lieutenant of Detectives. He was an avid bass fisherman and a life member of B.A.S.S. Lt. Boyd was also a member of High Point Bassmasters, The National Rifle Association and the A.A.R.P.

Lt. Boyd was married to Nickie Sue Carte Boyd, who survives of the home. Also surviving is one daughter, Dianne Boyd Solis of Randleman; two step-sons, James M. Carter of 5182 Hillwood Drive, Kernersville; and Ronald Joseph Carter of 1610 West Ward Ave., High Point; two grandchildren, Stacy Whitley; B.J. Alford and one great-grandchild; his mother, Mrs. Ethel Boyd of Thomasville; two brothers, Charles E. Boyd of Kersey Valley Rd., high Point and Darrell R. Body of Gobel Road, Thomasville.

Lt. Boyd is also survived by his extended family of the members of the High Point Police Department and by a very special friend, Retired Police Chief, Laurie Pritchett.

Lt. Boyd also had a great love for his two dogs, Magic and Jasper.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Cumby Eastchester Drive Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Thompson; Jim Finch; Steve Campbell; Ronald Carter; Jimmy Carter; Jim Tobin; Bryan Finn and Bill Freeman. Honorary pallbearers will be officers of the High Point Police Department
