She was united in marriage to Albert Derleth on June 12, 1947 at St. Paul's University Chapel, Madison. Helen attended Beloit High School, graduating in 1937. She later attended UW-Madison, graduating in 1941, and was a former teacher at Oakfield High School and Sauk City High School.
Helen was employed by the U.S. Navy Department, Bureau of Ships, at Fairbanks-Morse Company in Beloit, during World War II. She and her husband also owned and operated a plumbing and heating business for 21 years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Sarah Circle, a charter member of Sauk Prairie Memorial Auxiliary in 1956, and a member of the Education Alumni Association of the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Janice B. Griffin of St. Charles, IL; three nephews, Randall (Dr. Karen) Griffin, Brian (Patricia) Griffin, and John (Sherry) Griffin; several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth.
A Memorial Service will be held at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013, with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
