Elizabeth G. Blatz, 80, died peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital in New Brunswick on May 30.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the eldest daughter of Margaret and Benjamin Pfeffer and lived in Canarsie and St. Albans before marrying her high school sweetheart, Alan, who became an officer in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Florida, Kansas and Maine with three children during his tour of duty. They moved to East Brunswick in 1960, where they had four more children and lived out their lives.

A devoted mother, wife, and friend who could befriend others anywhere she went, she served on the Rosary Society of Immaculate Conception in Spotswood and on the PTA of its school. Once her children were of school age she worked at the East Brunswick Vocational Technical School and then went on to a career as an executive secretary at Estee Lauder Inc. in Pennsylvania, from which she retired. In her later years she worked tirelessly at Fiddleheads, her son's Jamesburg restaurant, providing much of its dessert menu since 2004. An exceptionally social person and the loving matriarch of her family, she loved to dance, bake cakes, cook, sew, crochet, garden, and was the lily of every party she attended or threw. She loved the ocean, and vacations on Long Beach Island were cherished memories for her family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband, Alan, to whom she was married 59 years; a son, Donald; and a sister, Marilyn, she is survived by six children: Charles and his wife, Debra, of Milltown; Gary and his partner, Donna O'Neill, of Randolph, Vt.; Barbara Stone and her husband, Julian, of Granada Hills, Calif.; Thomas and his wife, Mary Kay, of Wiscasset, Maine; Brian and his partner, Dan Davis, of New Brunswick; and Jennifer Wiessner and her husband, Gregory, of Cumberland, Maine; a brother, John Pfeffer of New York; a sister, Kathryn Eschmann and her husband Richard of New York; her brothers-in-law Pete Morris of New York and Lawrence Blatz and his wife Mary Ann of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren: Edward, Steven, Matthew, Samantha, Benjamin, Jessica, Molly, Keji, and Breton; and eight great-grandchildren: Michael, Joseph, Gary, Jacob, Lily, Samuel, Elizabeth and Katy. She will be terribly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitors may call on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, www.demarcofuneralhome.com, 205 Rhode Hall Road (Route 522), Monroe Twp., N.J.
