Walter Alvin Louis Landgraf was the only child of Herman Frederick & Clara (Mueller) Landgraf. He grew up on the east side of Detroit and worked in a variety of jobs.

Both of his parents were from Germany and both Herman & Clara had lost to death their 1st spouses.

Walter had several half siblings. They were:

There were 5 Katz siblings but only his sister Frieda (Bolle) lived to be an adult.

All 3 of the Landgraf siblings became adults, Hedwig (Altz), Frieda Mae (Kennedy) & Herman Jr.

Walter married three times. His first marriage in 1931 was to Nancy Brecher in 1931. It ended in divorce in Jan 1942. There were no children.

His second wife was Frances McCarthy. Walter and Frances had two children. Gerald was the first child who died young. The second was Dorothy (Defoe). Sadly his wife Frances died in Oct 1942. Walter missed her greatly and was lost for some time after Frances died.

During WWII Walter enlisted in the military as a Seaman in the Merchant Marine. He was older than the other service men. So, they called him the "old man".

After the war on 5 May 1946 Walter married Mary Johnson Spencer from Canada. (Mary had 2 children with her 1st husband.) The couple lived in Detroit, Roseville and then Inkster, Michigan.
