Alice Faye Canup Overcash, 74, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016.

Born in Rowan County on August 20, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Linker Canup and Henry Albert Canup. She was a 1959 graduate of Granite Quarry High School and went on to graduate from Salisbury Business College. She was retired from the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center where she worked as a pharmacy technician.

She was Baptist by faith and very active in Cub Scouts for 33 years. She was the Cub Master at Pack 316 at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry until 2001, then she worked with St. John's pack 443. She earned her wood badge, which is a scout leadership award and her silver beaver award, which is a council level distinguished service award. Recipients are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youths through service given to the council.

Ms. Overcash was a loving wife, mother, and sister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and her sister, Lois Canup Pickler.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jerry Lawrence Overcash, Sr., whom she married on March 25, 1967, at Stallings Baptist Church in Salisbury; son, Jerry “Jay” Lawrence Overcash, Jr. of Salisbury; daughter, Stacey Overcash Cannon and husband Scott (Rose) of Salisbury; brother, Jimmy Canup (Mary) of Galax, Va.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Rowan Memorial Park Chapel in the Pines. Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Rowan Memorial Park Chapel in the Pines with the Rev. Danielle DeNise officiating. Entombment will follow. Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Overcash family.
