Abos, Virginia Eleanor "Ginny"
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 94, died peacefully Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Gilbert Residence. She was born June 19, 1921 in Galion, OH, the daughter of Charles S. and Margorie E. (Snyder) Upson. She moved to Ypsilanti in 1937 and graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1939.

Virginia was a member of a number of local community organizations including: PEO chapter BP, Ladies Literary Club, Yankee Air Force (Charter Member), Ypsilanti Historical Museum (Docent) and the Mid-States Ceramic group. She was also a member of the Gilbert Auxiliary and made the Gilbert Residence her home for the last three years.

She had a number of lifelong very special friends, many of whom she met through 40 Diners, Too Too Travel Troupe, and her church.

Virginia was very active in the First Presbyterian Church where she was a member for 78 years, eventually becoming its longest living member. During that time she served as a Deacon, Elder, and President of the Presbyterian Woman. She belonged to the Group 5, Miriam/Martha Circles, sang in the choir, was a substitute organist, and contributed decorations/food at many of the church events. She enjoyed keeping the church photo albums updated by taking numerous pictures of church activities.

Virginia loved to send cards to her friends and families who were celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or just to let them know she was thinking of them. Her cards often included photos and/or newspaper clippings.

Virginia was preceded in death by her second husband, Ramon L. Abos in 1983. She is survived by: her four children, Nancy (Kevin) Watkins, Sue (Michael) Sukach, Betty (Don) Randazzo and James (Kim) Giles; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great grandchildren, who fondly called her Grandma GiGi. She was very proud of her family and their many accomplishments, and was thankful for having her four children living close by.

Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 11 am Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Washington Street, Ypsilanti where the family will receive friends from 10 am until time of service Wednesday. Rev. Keith Geiselman will officiate. Contributions in her memory may be made to the church. Envelopes are available at Stark Funeral Service where the family will receive friends 3-7 pm Tuesday.
