Walter Herschel Chadick

Max Slayton Funeral Home

Surrounded by his loving family, Walter Herschel Chadick, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2016, his grandson Parker Chadick’s birthday, who was there to greet him.

God’s word tells us to approach the throne of grace with boldness and Herschel chased after God with his bold prayers, demanding God’s ear for his family and friends. He saw the needs of others and gave generously from the overflowing heart that God had given him to all he saw who were in need. And God was faithful. He considered himself like David, a worthless sinner who loved the Lord with his whole heart.

He was born December 8, 1938 in Lakeland, Florida to the late Walter Herschel Chadick and Mary Dickson Chadick. But he always said he got to Texas as fast as he could to get Bette before someone else found her. He married his high school sweetheart, Bette Tinney, whom he loved with his whole heart for almost 60 years. He was the devoted father of 3 daughters, Lynnie, Laurie and Katie.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Terrell. He graduated from Winnsboro High School and later East Texas State University in Commerce. Stopping his college short to provide for his growing family, he managed his father-in-law’s Purina Feed Store in Winnsboro. After returning to get his degree, he was in sales for Texas Power and Light in Tyler, then transferring to Terrell in 1970 to head their sales department. In 1976 he opened his own business, Chadick’s Ltd. purveyor of fine firearms all over the country. Clients included 2 presidents, congressmen and many celebrities, including the Von Trapp family of “Sound of Music” fame and he was given the privilege by the Hermitage in Russia to sell Czar Nichola’s personal Parker. God blessed Herschel and Bette with many wonderful adventures. He will be inducted in April in North Carolina into Parker Gun Foundation’s Hall of Fame, as the authority on the Parker Shotgun.

When you reach Unique, go one step further and that was Herschel Chadick. He loved to give witty compliments, but as one of his grandchildren said, “he was the only man who could give you a compliment that made you laugh and cry at the same time”. His love for the outdoors enabled him to hunt the world, from Alaska to Africa to his own east Texas woods.

Herschel was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, his daughter, Laurie Chadick Lyons, grandsons, Parker Herschel Chadick, Herschel Edward Smith and granddaughter Rachel Lynn Smith.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday February 13 at First Baptist Church, Terrell with Bro. John Lowrie of Terrell and Bro. Dwain Goodson of Winnsboro leading the praise service. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Jeremy Lyons, Hunter Neely, Will Smith, Hayden Neely Smith, Lane Smith and Hadley Neely, all of whom loved him dearly. Herschel will be lovingly laid to rest at The Homeplace Cemetery, his private paradise in Winnsboro. Memorials may be made to the Landscape Fund at FBC Terrell, 403 N. Catherine, Terrell, 75160 or charity of your choice. God blessed his life and he blessed others.
