Shaun McMonigal, age 66, a resident of Manitowoc, made his transition on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at his home with his life partner by his side. Shaun was born on March 1, 1949 in Chicago where he was educated and lived most of his life. He had worked many years for ADT Security Systems in Chicago, but found his real passion while studying traditional Japanese healing arts and macrobiotics at the Kushi Institute in Beckett, MA. Shaun became a medicinal personal chef and educator and had great impact on many individual's health and well being. He was a compassionate, caring, kind and gentle soul who was loved by many. Shaun and his life companion, Gabriella, travelled the world and had quite a wonderful life together while also maintaining a second residence in Chicago. Shaun was preceded in death by his parents: Peter J. and Elizabeth G. (Schmitt) McMonigal. Survivors include Shaun's life companion of 14 years: Gabriella Spencer, Manitowoc; his three children: Ana Ruiz, Westchester, IL; Carmen Clemsic, Boston, MA; and Shaun McMonigal, Mooresville, NC; four grandchildren: Janessa, Kamryn, Jason and Dylan; Gabriella's children: Claudia Spencer, Ann Arbor, MI; and Max Spencer, Atlanta, GA; special Kushi pal: Liz Loverso, Evansville, IN; and other relatives and dear friends. Gabriella wishes to thank so much Holy Family Memorial Hospice staff for their compassionate, supportive and expert care during the last weeks of Shaun's illness from cancer. Further heart felt thanks to the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for their loving kindness and support. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. A memorial service will be held at the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 920 Park Street, Manitowoc at a later date.
