Betty Joyce Hunter VanHoose, 83, of Rockwood, and formerly of Decatur, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Rockwood.

A native and longtime resident of Decatur, she was a daughter of the late Ernest E. and Dora Godsey Hunter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Thomas VanHoose; two daughters, Linda Joyce Fagg and Katherine Ann VanHoose; and one son, Randall VanHoose.

She was a former employee of Simco Saddle Company.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol McKenzie and husband, Charles, of Rockwood, Martha Jo McDowell and husband, Tracy, of Athens, and Jane Powell of Dayton; four sons, Claude VanHoose of Decatur, James VanHoose of Rockwood, Robert VanHoose and wife, Billie, of Decatur, and Kenny VanHoose and wife, Ginny, of Crimora, Va.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. David Evans officiating.

Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family of Betty VanHoose will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ziegler Funeral Home.
