The only surviving child of John Chadwick and the former Julia Halsted, she was active in supporting the arts first in the US, and later as an expatriate. During the Spanish War, she had organized ladies to provide a "canteen" (refreshment stand) to the troops stationed at Montauk Point. Witnessing the deplorable conditions that were causing outbreak of disease among the troops, she protested publicly and was a key witness for the commission investigating the claims. In later years, she tried to organize a religious retreat for women, and was active in an acting troupe that included the future impresario Gilbert H. Miller (#38168485). Through that association she was entrusted to raise his only daughter, Dorothy (#158447500).
